Assam Darshan Scheme (Asom Darshan) is a flagship scheme started by the state government to preserve the spiritual and cultural heritage. Under this scheme, the government will provide financial support to the religious institutions for the Improvement of their infrastructure and amenities for pilgrims. All the religious places will be covered under this scheme. Religious places will be restored revive with a budget of 732 crore rupees in the last four years. In the last four years, there have been 3000+ religious places and cultural institutions was restored. With this initiative, the government tried to improve the infrastructure of spiritual and cultural heritage places so that it would also attract tourism, which would increase the state’s revenue.

Assam Darshan Scheme

Initially, this scheme was launched on 24th of February 2020. Religious places like temples, mosques, historic sites, and old churches were restored in this scheme. Some of the religious places in Assam are in a very bad condition due to the negligence of the local administration or due to a lack of budget. After the launch of the Assam Darshan Scheme, a special budget was allocated for the Innovation and restoration of Heritage and cultural places.

This scheme was launched by the former Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, now the current CM of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma extend this scheme with a new budget. The scheme is implemented by the Transformation and Development Department of Assam, and district Commissioners will oversee this scheme and execute it at the local level.

Assam Darshan Scheme Guidelines and Rules

  • All the work that is done in any religious place will be according to the architect’s design layout. It will help that these are its original structure and authenticity.
  • In case a new structure is made, it will be environmentally friendly, and visually, it will not disrespect existing architecture.
  • The complete verb should be completed within one to 2 financial years.
  • One construction Community it will be formed by the deputy conditioner, in which the government officials, president, secretary, members, and technical members will be included.
  • All the funds will be managed by the Committee, and the implementing committee is accountable to the district authority.
  • Insured security will be much tighter, and places will be protected from theft.

Institute Selection Process

  • First of all, government officials will identify the religious or cultural which needing to be preserved.  Transformation and development Department officials, with the district commissioner, visit this and the Heritage value visitor footfall, and what type of repair is required.
  • After that, DC will prepare a master plan for that place.
  • After that, a construction committee will be formed, which will include government officials, technical experts and the management Community.
  • In the first instalment, 10 lakh rupees will be released to the institution implementation committee for the infrastructure development process.
  • All the work will be completed under supervision, and after the completion, the technical officer will certify the work before the submission of accounts autistic Authority.

  • With this scheme, 3000 religious and cultural institutes are improved in 35 districts.
